Performances

We shall begin by drinking the blood of the sisters who came before us...

 Hey!!?!?!? That could be an interesting number!

 Inspiration can come from anywhere. The world of drag is evolving, becoming more mainstream, and queens are finding new and exciting (and sometimes disturbing) ways to push the boundaries of an already crumbled wall. However your performance doesn't have to be this big, out of the box shebang. Some of the best performances I've seen have been simple: drag queen in a gorgeous gown, parked in the middle of the stage, belting along with some classic Aretha giving emotion, poise, and vulnerability.

 It's captivating, and that's all that matters.

 More than anything else, the performance is about owning it. That's all. Get on that stage, strut your padded ass around, and give the crowds something to cheer about. Drag is a performance art, and an over-the-top spectacle. Everything about it, your character, your clothes, the dancing, the singing, the comedy, all of it, is a performance to the world around you. So you'd better be ready to show the fuck up and put on a show.

Ugh. This is the one part of drag I won't ever understand. Yes, men are able to put away their dangly bits and imitate women, but WHY!?!?!?!?!? It's not comfortable, it's not good for you, and honestly, it would be so much easier just to be a lady with a bulge. Step #6: The clothes & the body

In reality these two steps should be reversed: the body & the clothes, but if you're like me (you know, shopping addiction), you can fit your body to the outfit if you really need to. SHOPPING FOR WOMEN'S CLOTHES I know a few drag queens who refuse to try on women’s clothing in stores, and I understand. It never fits quite like it will when you have your body done up, and your hair did, and your face transformed into its look. There’s also the baseline awkwardness and social stigma against men who dress as women. While I hope this goes away, it is still present, and some queens try their best to avoid those situations that promote it. However, I am not like those queens. I take no shame in trying on women’s clothing at a store, despite all the side-eyes and full comments I get from people, especially women, who see me perusing the aisles of the women’s discount sections at Winners and Value Village.  The other day I was looking for an evening gown to wear t

Hip Pads

So, as you may have realized by now, either through my discussions or watching my performances on dragging our heels , Rowena Whey is very confident in her body. Aka, she likes to show skin, and to do this requires not wearing tights! This also means I never wear hip pads. In fact, I don't own any. While I enjoy the freedom of an uncovered leg and ass, I can't always rely on that body-ody-ody.  This past week I decided to take a new step in my drag adventure and experiment with some new (to me) outfits and shapes. Cue my hip-pad creating adventure: 1. Buy foam. Begin the Walmart search for a suitable mattress cover that could double as my foam source. I ended up going with a memory foam pillow, cause Rowena is a classy hoe, and having technologically advanced hip pads sounds right up her alley. 2. Cut said pillow in half to make two 2-inch blocks of foam 3. Made a stencil of my hips and ass. So I half-assed this (pun intended). I did not create a stencil for enlarging
