Performances

We shall begin by drinking the blood of the sisters who came before us...

 Hey!!?!?!? That could be an interesting number!

 Inspiration can come from anywhere. The world of drag is evolving, becoming more mainstream, and queens are finding new and exciting (and sometimes disturbing) ways to push the boundaries of an already crumbled wall. However your performance doesn't have to be this big, out of the box shebang. Some of the best performances I've seen have been simple: drag queen in a gorgeous gown, parked in the middle of the stage, belting along with some classic Aretha giving emotion, poise, and vulnerability.

 It's captivating, and that's all that matters.

 More than anything else, the performance is about owning it. That's all. Get on that stage, strut your padded ass around, and give the crowds something to cheer about. Drag is a performance art, and an over-the-top spectacle. Everything about it, your character, your clothes, the dancing, the singing, the comedy, all of it, is a performance to the world around you. So you'd better be ready to show the fuck up and put on a show.

Ugh. This is the one part of drag I won't ever understand. Yes, men are able to put away their dangly bits and imitate women, but WHY!?!?!?!?!? My (Drag) Family

When I started doing drag I didn't give an inkling of thought towards how big it could become to me. It was something I wanted to pursue for the fun of it, for the artistry and for the escape. I still love it for all those reasons, but now it's become something even bigger. Drag is an art-form, but it's also more than that.  It is not reserved for men parading as women and women parading as men, nor is it reserved for the LGBTQA* community. Drag simply requires an openness and acceptance of all types of people, and acts as a medium for anyone wishing to put their heart and soul into an expression of themselves. It's this acceptance I've come to love and appreciate more than anything else. I couldn't help but feel from the beginning that what I was pursuing would be shunned or disregarded by many of my peers outside the community. Style is like an opinion. Everyone's entitled to one, but not every one can be right. Style is all about taste. Like food, everyone will like different things, and also like food, my seeing you in something questionable will probably give me an allergic reaction to your horrible taste. But seriously, some people can put an outfit together like no other. These people are usually stylists for fashion magazines and clothing stores, fashion models, or Angel from Rent.  People you wish you were, because they have the innate ability to look good in whatever the hell they can squeeze onto their bodies. No, your Instagram thread does not make you a fashion model. Now, let's get this out of the way: in no way am I saying that I have a good sense of style in terms of fashion.
