Step #1: Realize you want to do drag
Yeah yeah yeah, this is self-explanatory,
but it’s actually pretty important. Determining WHY you want to do drag will
help you to figure out WHO you want to be as a drag queen. There are many
different types of drag, styles of makeup, fashion, performance, or simply
impersonation, and if you don’t know WHO you want to be, you will never be able
to determine WHAT you have to do to get there.
This tutorial won’t go through each type
individually, but it will give you the guidelines you need to find out how to
get to where you want to go.
Don't put yourself in
a box. Allow your drag to evolve, grow, and improve. Just because you think you
want to be a pageant queen, doesn't mean you can't do comedy, or cosplay. Drag
is about being who you want to be.
I have directed my
drag to the club scene. Not because I don't want to do pageants, or whatever, and
I'll never rule that out, but because I wanted to perform, dance, have people
shove bills into my bra and panties. I wanted to be the classy hoe I knew myself
as deep down under my masculine physique.
I never wanted to BE a woman. Just exude the spirit of one; my secret
(and not so secret) dream of having the mystique of the MILF down the street.
Rowena Whey grew out
of my need for artistic expression, at a time when the world was bringing me
down, and mimics the mask I portray in my everyday male life. She is the woman down the block from you in boring suburbia with
the perfect life, and perfect family, but behind closed doors she’s a filthy hot
mess, floodgates primed to open and reveal the disaster and danger inside. I am me, and she is me, and together we make
an excellent pair of dark, twisty souls.
But:
Why are YOU starting
yourself on this journey? Take a moment to consider that, then come back to me
and answer this:
Who do you want to be?
Start by finding a
queen you admire. It can be for their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, or talent ;) Maybe you just find them endearing, but something draws you to them.
What about your drag character do they represent? How is your persona different and what would you change to get there?
Have you decided? Alright, here we go.
Gentlemen, start your engines, and may the best woman win!!
I’ll take this
opportunity to thank a few people, and later on I’ll mention a few more for
their invaluable advice. Thnak-you to Miss Fame, for her amazing tutorials.
Honestly, what would I have looked like without you!?!? Thank-you to Willam, for showing me being
perfect isn’t everything, and thank-you to Vanity Fair and Tiara Misu for their
advice and support from the start.
